Camera Questions Answered Here
Frequently Asked Questions

Here you will find answers to the most common questions asked by our customers.

If you cannot find the answer to your particular question please email us and we will be happy to help you decide which camera product is suitable for you.

Can I purchase my underwater cameras directly from the website?

Yes, simply click on the store section links. Here you can view our full range of under water cameras and order online by secure credit card payment..

How fast can I troll with my underwater camera from a boat ?

The answer to this question depends on depth and the length of cable you have out, which determines water resistance. Deeper waters and longer cable lengths mean more drag, or water resistance. Increased cable length and resulting drag require slower travel for good viewing. Generally, for optimal viewing we recommend moving at less than two miles per hour. Remember, the slower you go the more detail you will see. Also, when trolling forward use special caution to avoid getting camera and cable caught in a boat's propeller, rudder, or underside rigging.

How do I steer the underwater camera?

For viewing in the direction of travel, use the Front Viewing Fin. With the Front Viewing Fin attached to the back of the camera, slowly troll (less than 2 mph) or drift along the structure you intend to observe. Thanks to the Fin, your camera will face the direction of the boat's travel. The opposite holds true when using the Back Viewing Fin accessory. With the Back Viewing Fin, you will be looking "backwards," or in the opposite direction of the boats travel.

Our cameras can also be launched from the bankside out into the lake using the special float system supplied with your camera. Carp Anglers opt to attached the camera cable to bait boats and drop the camera at a exact spot in the lake., to allow them to watch carp feeding habits.

Can I use my Camera in saltwater?

Yes. All our cameras are saltwater-rated. They are constructed with stainless steel hardware and materials that are impervious to corrosion.

Can I hook my camera up to a larger monitor or hand-held recorder?

Yes. Your camera can be hooked up to a larger external TV, provided it has a "video-in" jack. The same holds true for a hand-held video recorder.

Can I get a longer cable than what is currently offered?

The longest cable available is 100-Feet. Cables cannot be spliced.

How far can I see?

Naturally, the clearer the water the farther you can see. As a general rule the camera will "see" two times farther than the human eye in water. If you can see 3 feet down you will be able to see approximately 6 feet with the camera. This is a general rule and all bodies of water will vary. For anglers, two feet of visibility is sufficient for studying bottom structure with an underwater camera.

Will my camera work in subfreezing conditions?

Our camera systems are designed to operate at temperatures from -40 to 120 F. Expect your battery life to decrease in cold conditions.

What is the camera's angle of view?

Your camera lens has a viewing angle of 92 degrees. At 4-1/2 feet in front of the camera you will view an image approximately 6 feet wide.

Can I splice the camera cable to obtain more length?

No. Attempting to splice in additional cable violates the waterproof integrity of the camera and cable, voiding the warranty.

What is the resolution of my monitor screen?

Your screen has 420-line resolution for crystal-clear viewing.

What is the difference between Infrared and Spectral Response lighting?

Infrared is a non-visible light and is meant for dawn/dusk/deeper water. Spectral Response is much more intense and a better choice for anglers that will use their camera after dark, along with dawn/dusk/deep water.

Which Camera Model should i choose?

This is really down to your budget and what you want to spend.

The FishTV is our budget range and offers excellent under water vision at a very affordable price. The new range of 820c cameras are the next generation in underwater video technology and are the most popular model purchased as they offer so many amazing technology improved features to make under water viewing an facinating experience. the new 8 inch flay panel screen just makes the video quality crystal clear to watch, it even has an anti sunlight screen allowing great vision in bright sunlight conditions

Can i record my under water video footage?

Yes, we supply compact video recorders which attach to the camera so you can record all your underwater video footage, these can be ordered from our accessories page on the website
